Learn robotics, without a robot in the classroom.

SO-KukaRobotik combines short explanations with tasks that can be carried out directly in the browser simulation. Teachers do not need robotics training: every exercise states its learning goal, duration, preparation and a clear task.

Important: This page is a learning simulation. It does not replace instruction on a real robot. Real programs, points and safety functions must be checked on the actual system by qualified personnel.
TEACHING STRUCTURE

From observing to your own program

The sequence is deliberately simple: first observe, then understand, then modify, and finally program independently. This also matches publicly described KUKA learning goals for students and beginners: understand the robot system, move it safely, learn coordinate systems, start programs and apply simple motions and logic.

1

Explore

Get to know A1–A6, the SmartPAD, robot cell and operating logic.

2

Move

Think in axis-specific and Cartesian terms. Distinguish WORLD, BASE and TOOL.

3

Program

Combine PTP, LIN, WAIT, sensors and a gripper in one sequence.

4

Transfer to industry

Understand BASE shifting, fixtures, pick & place and troubleshooting.

RUNS IN CLASS

10 school exercises directly on the website

The buttons open the simulation already configured for the task or take you to the interactive BASE Lab. The exercises can be used individually or as a learning sequence.

Achsdetektiv A1–A6

Goal: identify which joint creates which motion.

  1. Use T1.
  2. Set HOV to 10–25%.
  3. Move A1, A2 and A3 individually.
  4. Then compare A4–A6.

SmartPAD-Startkette

Goal: understand why START alone is not enough.

  1. Select a program.
  2. Check T1.
  3. Enable the training enabling switch.
  4. Run START and read the messages.

PTP oder LIN?

Goal: distinguish point-to-point motion from a straight tool path.

  1. Load PickPlace_Lernmodus.
  2. Watch the active program line.
  3. Compare PTP and LIN sections.

Gripper & digital outputs

Goal: understand I/O as the link between program and tool.

  1. Select the parallel gripper.
  2. Observe $OUT[1].
  3. Pick up and release the workpiece.

Sensor waits for workpiece

Goal: understand WAIT FOR and digital inputs.

  1. Start SensorPick.
  2. Observe the stop at $IN[1].
  3. Set $IN[1] in the I/O monitor.

Shift the BASE

Goal: understand why points can move with a workstation.

  1. Shift the BASE origin.
  2. Rotate BASE around C.
  3. Compare the same local point.

Cobot or industrial robot?

Goal: Compare KR 6 and LBR iisy as different workstation concepts.

  1. Switch robot models.
  2. Inspect the workspace.
  3. Discuss the safety concept.

Troubleshooting like in practice

Goal: solve messages systematically instead of clicking randomly.

  1. Try START deliberately without enabling.
  2. Write down the cause.
  3. Establish the required enable condition.
  4. Resolve the sensor wait state.

Exercises for home

Everything runs in the browser. A student can repeat the same task on their own computer and, with a learning account, save their progress.

🏠 Home 1 · Axis memory

Move A1–A6 one after another and write one sentence for each axis: “A3 does …”. Then check your answer in the learning course.

Open simulation

🏠 Home 2 · BASE puzzle

Set BASE X=300 mm, Y=150 mm, C=90°. First calculate on paper where a local point X=100/Y=50 should roughly be in WORLD, then check it in the lab.

BASE-Puzzle

🏠 Home 3 · KRL gap code

Complete a small pick-and-place sequence. The browser checks whether PTP/LIN, a tool selection and gripper signal are included.

🏠 Home 4 · Sensor logic

Explain in your own words why WAIT FOR $IN[1] can pause a sequence and when this might be useful in a production system.

Sensor demo

🏠 Home 5 · Compare paths

Run the learning mode and draw a sketch: Which paths are PTP and which are LIN? Where would you prefer LIN for a delicate workpiece?

PTP/LIN-Demo

🏠 Home 6 · Mini project

Build your own program from a template using HOME → approach → grip → transport → place → HOME. Test it only in the simulation.

FOR TEACHERS

No robotics specialist required

The teacher briefing reduces preparation to the concepts actually needed for the lesson. It includes 45- and 90-minute lesson plans, sample answers and guidance on common student questions.

FACHLICHE ORIENTIERUNG

Independently explained, aligned with industrial topics

The exercises are not official KUKA teaching materials. They are technically informed by publicly described KUKA College learning goals and KSS documentation, but are implemented in original wording with our own simulation and tasks.
